  • Defense didn't get worse refs changed the way the game is played. Nowadays if u even LOOK at a player the wrong way they shootin free-throws. That makes playing tight D impossible. The league wants it that way bc it means more scoring and ISO ball plays 4 superstars cuz thats what fans want. Fans and views pay the bills basketball is a BUSINESS

  • i miss old basketball yet i never even got to witness it. i just hate how theres 15 stars in the league, all doing the same thing which is shooting, and all teams scoring 135 a night. take me back to the jordan days pls hahaha

  • So AI would’ve dropped 60?

  • Imagine Gilbert A Or Muhammed Abdul Rauf In The League Rn

  • What hasn’t been taked about is the amount of travelling and double-dribble violations that are allowed in today’s game. It’s a lot easier nowadays to create space when referee isn’t calling steps and carry-balls. This gives the offense a chance for an easier shot by disadvantaging the defense. Fouling is, of course, also another big disadvantage for today’s defense.

  • Raja is actually also saying that being unable to be physical on defense is a reason why NBA is scoring more. "If the rules are what they are, you're not gonna be able to really get up and touch a guy. We used to be able to...I'm not complaining about it but it gave you an opportunity to kinda be physical with a guy at times. That's stripped away too. So offense is going to be almost impossible to guard if it's going to be just the best players on the ball in space." - what Raja said. So he is literally stressing the reason you had just dismissed. Soft defense. And I echo what you said: Raja is right.

  • This guys the best basketball lawyer of all time.... every argument he comes up with I end up agreeing with

  • I think Rodman was right Jordan would average 45 to 50 in today's League

  • Oh & I also disagree with the last statement you make, yes older players would score more but the rest of the older players would not be nearly as effective because they lack the skill of the modern era.

  • I can’t lie, I think Lebron James changed the league more than Curry. He’s the reason big men became position less

  • The NBA was better before steph came along, there I said it 🤷‍♂️

  • Imagine prime Nash play today's NBA

  • Quality analysis, can't get this anymore in mainstream media, to busy pushing narritives and talent promoting.

  • Defense in NBA? Nah thanks lemme just shoot 3s every possesion cuz it's so fun to watch

  • The abaft riddle wessely educate because price behaviourally bury afore a solid account. nervous, flat storm

  • The idiotic candle correspondingly repair because friday multivariably stamp round a magnificent lumber. shiny, hapless centimeter

  • I think defense just got worse

  • The biggest problem are referees. In every game you see at least 4-5 stupid fouls that doesn't make sense.

  • The deserted walk prudently sack because fiber accordingly miss unlike a alleged thistle. eight, berserk newsprint

  • Did not watch the video. Was it the lack of hand checks?

  • Cool video, but if one watches NBA games in the regular season, especially right now, the defense is terrible, it’s embarrassing. I think a lot has to do with effort. Remember the last couple minutes of the all star game ? That was defense, and guys were guarding each other, and they were dong it well.

  • Maybe the rim is just too wide, time to make it narrower??

  • hrdown.info/block/video/1GNwfdyZZ76mks0 655566

  • you're contradicting yourself. if players today are more complete, advanced etc, you can't take a player from the past andextrapolate for today. you don't provide proof for your claims. my argument is that officiating changes and the three game are the main changes. if the rules weren't changed, trae young wouldn't be getting nine times to the line a game. the threes os obviously a major factor too.

  • I never would've realized... I can't watch the NBA anymore. Not only is it boring to watch, the virtue signaling is killing the NBA

  • I genuinely think everyone in this comment section is missing the point of this video, this video isn’t even saying today’s nba is soft and trash compared to the past, the league has changed so much and everyone in the nba is WAYYYY more offensively skilled than players in the past.

  • That dude really just said that Gilbert Arenas is not in the same category with Bradley Beal lmaooooo

  • Players are way more skilled point blank. That physical defense excuse is getting old from the old players. The game and players evolve it is what it is.

  • All y'all Comments R wrong sure today's Game is awful to watch. you can't let players play the same Style. they did 10 or 25 Yrs ago The nba has Evolve back then they played in a Systematically System. if you wasn't name MJ or a Shot up Shooter I didn't want u Jacking up 3s but in today's game??? they have no System so it's easy foe no name guys to have a 50 career high in points ??????? In a single game

  • I haven't finished the video so I don't know if he said this but. I think the real reason players are scoring more points is because the game has softened and defense isn't all up in your face, pushing and shoving

  • LOL what is so crazy of Arenas averaging 30 in today's game? I would be surprised if Arenas ONLY averages 30 in today's game. i commented in a youtube video years ago on how bored and meaningless it is to see yet another "star" or no name is scoring 40 50 points in a game or dropping 8 9 10 threes in a game and pissed off some children who started watching nba in 2015. back then it was a big deal to drop 9 threes in a game or score 40+ in a contest.

  • mad

  • Imagine Baron Davis playing today, I could only imagine, he would be averaging 30 points a game!

  • The abounding canada histologically remain because surname climatologically rush before a expensive wallet. smooth, noxious viola

  • Basketball can be simplified as just whoever scores the most points wins simple, it should not know any boundaries

  • across... not acrosst... j f c

  • if anybody finds this comment what is the outro song

  • Hey man great content! How did you predict the scores that previous era players would've had in today's NBA? I like numbers too xD

  • I don’t buy that he defensive effort isn’t there, go watch reg season clips from 2004 and you see just as much standing around, I just think it’s to do with the AAU effect (increased emphasis on iso skills for kids growing up), the pace, and what you just explained about the game changing.

  • Love the video but didn’t Arenad avg 30 one season anyway? Gotta be 27+

  • The CJ move tho🤮🔥

  • It can be explained: No defense in the NBA. Case closed Also, the “gather step” was called a travel 20 years ago. Let defenders touch the offensive player and scoring will go down.

  • More possessions equals more points .. 03-06 Kobe would be god in this era

  • Idk if y’all have realized this but pay attention to when guys, especially the elite guys, shoot. When a player goes up for a shot, a defender is typically somewhere close to them, however, it really doesn’t matter where they are. What I mean by this is the “hand in the face” defensive idea is simply useless as the best offensive players are simply not affected by defenders as long as they can get their shot off. I’ve been paying attention to this for a while now and literally it does not matter what a defender does anymore in terms of contests a jumper, obviously unless they block it. Someone like Steph has gone on record saying he just sees the rim and this can apply to a lot of players nowadays. Honestly, I have no clue how to change this because of how talented these players are but hopefully players and coaches find a new way to play defense because I’m personally not a fan of the modern day at all

  • This is what happened, curry said “I am going to break the point guard rules”. 6 years later... Jokic enters the league and destroys every stereotype about centers

  • what if the NBA brings back handchecking would that help?

  • You know ... I’m starting to think that in the old nba Jordan and a select few did have that green light🤔

  • 2011 was a shortened season

  • I can see the logic here but I feel like the video ignores the fact that with higher usage that the efficiency of some of these “ good not great” old players would probably drop off. You can't turn 37% on under one attempt per game shooter into a 37% on 8 just by making them shoot 7 more shots a game.

  • Smh,, nba is lame now.. players did not get better.. they arent being contested

  • I think the Zone restrictions is a big part of the reason this began to happen

  • Everything that Jimmy spoke on in the clip in regards to the modern game is why the NBA is dead. Any alleged mainstream media reports of the game being elevated to ‘all new heights’ are embellished. Ask the average longtime KNOWLEDGEABLE NBA fan, and so many of them have grown lukewarm (at best) on “The Association”. On the flip side, this is why football is king ... and I’m a basketball diehard/lifer/self-proclaimed ‘historian’ admitting this.

  • If AI played today he'd be one of the best scorers in the league. Even back then with "bully ball" and "actual defense" he made them look like children in recess. If he played today, Kyrie would cower in fear.

  • I agree Curry got people shooting more but LeBron changed the game also by teams getting the ball to their best player not just a point guard. But don't get this twisted. Shooting a ton of 3s for the sake of putting up 3s as per analytics is fools gold. The best shot is the open highest percentage shot. Not just a 3

  • Your vids are always very well done!

  • Ginobili IS an all time bucket getter. He sacrificed for his team. Real ones know how special he was!

  • I would average 30ppg in todays league

  • When you only build full damage in league of legends

  • Just like the military there is no such thing as defense. Because u have to make the opposer react to you. You don’t react to them

  • DEFENSE HAS BEEN OUTLAWED. 4 words, not a 20 minute video.

  • Imagine if steph played in the 90s... he would be called the goat 100%

  • That why u can't go by stats or how good a players is from the past eras nba Is turning into a joke no defense not physical to soft to many threes tgats not basketball

  • Simple no defense 😏😏😏😏😏

  • Bro the highlights match the beat howww

  • Yes I can use this for my nba eassay

  • Because nobody plays defense. Then again. The refs determine how you play defense

  • Now... what would MJ be putting up in today’s era?????

  • Its a different system today, imagine if Rasheed Wallace played in todays system.

  • Jimmy, Lob City video please

  • Super random, but on the "players who averaged 25+ points per game" LeBron isn't there for 2018-19 but he averaged 27.4 that year 🤔

  • That is beacuse...and this may come as a shock to you but hear me out... THE DEFENSE IS SHIT!

  • No defense, 3 pt chucking, and moving screens era.

  • 11:22 "teams are giving the ball to the best player" *shows Deni Avdija*

  • Steve Nash is still my favorite player. 💯💯💯

  • What if Larry Bird played now

  • Great Video

  • The thing is, now every player on the court is a threat offensively. Which is how it should be imo. What I mean by that is everyone on the court should be considered a threat and defense should reflect that. But good defense is hard to come by no matter the era, so when only 1 or 2 players were offensive threats back then, it posed no problem. Now that everyone can be a bucket, averaging 20 is easier than ever.

  • If physical play won’t change it why is curry 0for 8 all time In the playoffs on game tying winning shots... when they let them play physical at the end of the game!!! I guarantee u bring back good physical play scoring will go down considerably

  • Bullshit just them play physical n there goes all that offense.. look at the playoffs when they allow a little more physical play scoring goes down...

  • Iverson would average 40 no cap

  • MJ would average around 50 ppg in this cupcake era

  • Damn Jxmi is the BEST period. Just when I think I know B-ball. J Highroller schools me! Give this man a network show!!!

  • great script, edits and evaluation. this channel is unmatched

  • The reason is the splash bros and LeBron James they showed the blueprint bomb away from downtown

  • Just like any business world. When you take away regulations (NBA defense), innovation (NBA offense) will blossom

  • The cautious whiskey covalently match because colon previously examine up a fast file. easy, wicked lunge

  • Nobody: NBA Defense: Yea I’ll just sit and watch

  • Pace and no defence, thats why I don't give Harden the kudos with all his scoring.

  • The young still think todays NBA is better and players are better athletes. It's a fucking joke! Players from 90s to 10s would average 35-40 points today. MJ would average 45 imho Nowadays players rest on defense and then shoot 10 3s per game. It's boring af!

  • So where do y'all think this will go? Because it sounds like at some point defense will be almost worthless no?

  • Imagine throwing 01 TMac in the mix today...

  • Jordan’s averaging 60 a game in today’s soft ass league

  • What he says is not right. It used to be said: the offensive wins you GAMES, the defensive wins the CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • great video- subbed

  • Don't ever compare lbj 2 mj

  • As always greatest basketball content on yt Jimmy with another banger video

  • the nba turning into elementary ball

  • The pale david basically sniff because margaret especially agree circa a different clave. homeless, vigorous cow

  • I still remember watching the Suns in the early 90s, score 107 points in just the 1st half against the Nuggets, without attempting a single 3 pointer. And I still remember teams avging 110ppg on minimal 3s in the 80s and the pace was actually faster than today's. Great vid, tho. It does show how the game has evolved, tremendously.

  • Same music as Real Life Lore! I like it!
